Commands to Serve - Deuteronomy 10:12-13 - April 11, 2025 

“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments and statutes of the Lord, which I am commanding you today for your good?” Deuteronomy 10:12-13 

The Israelites have been wandering in the wilderness, and Moses is now preparing them to enter the Promised Land. In our passage today, Moses is not just reminding the people of what God desires from them; he is inviting them into a deep, life-changing relationship with the Creator. The challenge that Moses gives the people is two-fold. The first part is commands of how we are to respond to God…Fear the Lord, Be Obedient and Love Him. The second part is where the rubber meets the road, “…serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul…” 

You could live a life of solitude and execute the first part. You could Fear God and have a reverent awe of His power, holiness, and authority. You could Be Obedient, living quietly alone, not slandering, coveting, stealing, etc. You could Love Him in the peacefulness of your own home, appreciating what He has done for you. But the call that God is bringing to his people through Moses is greater than something we can accomplish in solitude. We are called to serve, and that requires getting involved with other people. 

This command to serve is also given emphasis. We are called to serve with all our heart and all our soul. As followers of Christ, there needs to be a sense of urgency in knowing that the Gospel message that is brought to the world has an eternal impact. When we serve and help facilitate ministry, this is a high calling. You might volunteer at a school fundraiser, a Rotary event, coach little league…all good things! But at the end of the day, these efforts are for a temporary cause. When we answer the command to serve God, we are participating in an eternal event. God allows us to be a part of his eternal work. Understanding the weight of this call is what requires us to approach it with such zeal, “all our heart, and all our soul.” 

Do not underestimate the role that you play in God’s eternal plan. God is sovereign and omniscient; His plans will not be thwarted. He has invited us to participate in that plan. When we serve him, we glorify him and are allowed to be a part of the process that may change someone’s eternal destination. I encourage you today to look for those opportunities that God is placing in your path to serve Him.

Órdenes para servir - Deuteronomio 10:12-13 - 11 de abril de 2025 

«Y ahora, Israel, ¿qué es lo que el Señor tu Dios exige de ti, sino que temas al Señor tu Dios, que andes en todos sus caminos, que lo ames, que sirvas al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón y con toda tu alma, y que guardes los mandamientos y estatutos del Señor, que hoy te ordeno para tu bien?» Deuteronomio 10:12-13 

Los israelitas han estado vagando por el desierto y Moisés ahora los está preparando para entrar en la Tierra Prometida. En nuestro pasaje de hoy, Moisés no solo le recuerda al pueblo lo que Dios desea de ellos; los invita a una relación profunda y transformadora con el Creador. El desafío que Moisés le da al pueblo es doble. La primera parte son mandamientos sobre cómo debemos responder a Dios... Temed al Señor, sed obedientes y amadle. La segunda parte es donde se pone a prueba la teoría: «...sirve al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón y con toda tu alma...». 

Podrías vivir una vida de soledad y cumplir la primera parte. Podrías temer a Dios y sentir un temor reverente de su poder, santidad y autoridad. Podrías ser obediente, viviendo tranquilamente solo, sin calumniar, codiciar, robar, etc. Podrías amarlo en la tranquilidad de tu propia casa, apreciando lo que ha hecho por ti. Pero el llamado que Dios está haciendo a su pueblo a través de Moisés es más grande que algo que podamos lograr en soledad. Estamos llamados a servir, y eso requiere involucrarnos con otras personas. 

También se hace hincapié en este mandato de servir. Estamos llamados a servir con todo nuestro corazón y con toda nuestra alma. Como seguidores de Cristo, debe haber un sentido de urgencia al saber que el mensaje del Evangelio que se lleva al mundo tiene un impacto eterno. Cuando servimos y ayudamos a facilitar el ministerio, esto es un gran llamado. Puedes ser voluntario en una recaudación de fondos para la escuela, un evento de Rotary, entrenar a una liga infantil... ¡todo eso está bien! Pero al fin y al cabo, estos esfuerzos son por una causa temporal. Cuando respondemos al mandato de servir a Dios, estamos participando en un acontecimiento eterno. Dios nos permite ser parte de su obra eterna. Comprender el peso de esta llamada es lo que nos obliga a abordarla con tanto celo, «todo nuestro corazón y toda nuestra alma». 

No subestimes el papel que desempeñas en el plan eterno de Dios. Dios es soberano y omnisciente; sus planes no serán frustrados. Nos ha invitado a participar en ese plan. Cuando le servimos, lo glorificamos y se nos permite ser parte del proceso que puede cambiar el destino eterno de alguien. Hoy te animo a que busques esas oportunidades que Dios está poniendo en tu camino para servirle.
